Awards Eligibility 2018

It’s that time of year again, and I’m happy to have a story out that the SFF community can read and consider, or just enjoy.

The Anchorite Wakes was published in Clarkesworld in August, and you can read it here for free.

This is my first pro sale, and makes me eligible for the Campbell, Nebula, Hugo and others.

I had another story, The Bois, reprinted in the Apex Book of World SF Volume 5, which is out now. You can buy it here. The same story was also in SuperSonic magazine (Spain) and will be reprinted in next year’s Sunspot Jungle Volume II anthology. You can pre-order Volume I here.

Both collections are full of fantastic stories, and new and established international writers who have something fresh and original to offer to fans of genre. I’m honoured to be part of these wonderful publications.

I’m also delighted to be on the recommended reading list for the Nebulas again this year, for The Anchorite Wakes. Writers are readers first and the more my stories are shared, the happier it makes me. Thank you to the person who added me. Blessings!

Until we meet again…

2017 Awards Eligibility

I’ve never done this before, so I’ll just jump right into it.

Hi, my writing name is R.S.A. Garcia and I have a story eligible for awards this year.

You can read ‘The Bois’ for free at this link.

Really nice people said some really nice things about the story here and here.

There’s a great list of everything published by black authors in 2017 here, which I’m on.

I’m also on the recommended reading list for the Nebulas.

I would love it if you read my story. If you’re a voting member for speculative fiction writing awards and you like it, please consider voting for it.

Thanks for stopping by!

LEX TALIONIS Has Won An IPPY Award!

I’ve been sitting on this for a few days, ever since my last day at the BOCAS Lit Fest actually, and I still can hardly believe it myself.

But the proof is right here.

LEX TALIONIS, my debut novel, was just awarded the Silver Medal for Best Science Fiction/Fantasy/Horror Ebook by the Independent Publishers Book Awards. It’s the first award for my book, and the first time I’ve won a prize in a writing competition since I was a teenager.

How do I feel about this, you ask?

Hmmm…let me see…

In Which There Is Shameless Self-Promotion

Hello there!

Most of you know me well enough by now that you’re aware I come here to natter to myself every once in a while. However, some of you may be coming by for the first time, so I’ll just take this moment to let you know that this is also where I talk about my book.

As in my science fiction mystery, LEX TALIONIS, which was published last year by Dragonwell Publishing.

I was pretty jazzed when it received a starred review from Publishers Weekly. And since then, some good people have said some nice things about it on Goodreads and Amazon.

So just in case you’re one of those people who are looking for something to read that you might have missed in 2014, or even someone who likes to support small presses and indie authors, feel free to have a look at LEX TALIONIS. For those willing to post an honest review, I even have a few electronic copies available. Just use my ‘Say Hello’ form to contact me.

Also, if you are planning to vote for books published in 2014 in any upcoming awards for genre novels, particularly the Hugos etc., please consider that LEX TALIONIS is eligible for the 2014 award season.

O rly really you dont say reaction gifs

I’m telling you this because although it literally gives me hives to draw attention to myself, sadly, I’m quite sure that if I don’t do it I won’t be on anyone’s radar. You probably haven’t heard of my book and have no idea of its eligibility, so I have no choice but to put up my hand and remind everyone I’m here.

And that’s all I’m doing. Reminding everyone I’m here.

Thanks for listening and please, if you have a book that was published recently, feel free to drop the name in the comments section. I’m always looking for new stuff to read.

Stay thirsty, my friends!
