Happy to announce my first ever novelette has been sold to Clarkesworld Magazine!
The Sun From Both Sides is now live and can be read for free here.
This is a very special one for me, and also one of the things I worked the most exhaustively on in the recent past. More editing passes were made on this than on my first novel, I swear!
I’ll talk about the process more in a later post, but for now I’ll just say it’s about a woman who sets out to rescue her husband, and then he rescues her right back. The title is actually part of a quote by David Viscott:
‘To love and be loved is to feel the sun from both sides.’
Hope you enjoy!
This was an awesome story, I enjoyed it tremendously! Apart from the great world-building and structure, and all those things that made me yell “Yesss! That’s what I’m here for!”, I also really liked the names you chose for everything.
So I totally hope to learn more a, about the process leading up to this novelette, and b, about the world. Please tell me that’s not the only thing you’re going to write in this setting!
Hi! So sorry I took a while to see this. I was really busy for the past month so I wasn’t checking my website email much. Thank you so much for letting me know you enjoyed the story. I’m incredibly flattered as I love your work!
I do have at least one other story planned in this world. Initially, I almost made TSFBS a novella, with the third part focusing more on Sister, but I thought I needed more time to get that right in my head, and Valencia was so complex, I felt I should let the reader catch their breath lol.
I’m also musing over whether to do a prequel or two for both Eva and Didecus. My sister is demanding deadly court politics in gardens, which is exactly what I had in mind lol. So happily, as soon as I’m not so swamped with work and the business of living (and a long-awaited sequel to my novel lol), I hope to give you more of this world indeed!
I have to second the request for more stories in this world, I was drawn in and wanted to know so much more about all the little details of these worlds. Excellent story!
This was so beautiful!
