I just had to share this.
Last night I saw what is one of my favourite routines of this cycle of SYTYCD, and probably one of my faves of all time. Virgil and Hailee are definitely two dancers I’m rooting for, but Hailee came in on the Stage team, while Virgil came in on my personal fave, the Street team. Hailee admitted just before the routine that she has training in Hip Hop. Boy does she ever! Check out their amazing alien robot routine below.
And because I can’t just give you one moment of amazing art, here’s a routine called the Hummingbird and the Flower, from season 3, which was just voted one of the all-time greatest routines on the show.

SYTYCD is like the one reality TV show I actually enjoy watching. I’ve only seen the Australian version, but I love that its philosophy is so constructive. They don’t just have random celebrity judges tearing down the contestants. Despite that it’s a competition, the judges seem to be actual experts out to help everyone just make the most of the experience, get to experiment with really interesting choreography, build each other up etc. There’s no one wandering around trying to hype up catty bullshit for so-called entertainment value. It’s just about awesome dancing.
Oh my god, exactly! That’s why I believe this is the best reality show on TV in any country.

Oh thanks for that! What a great routine. The standard for this show is obviously the same, country to country. Though I would have called that a jazz routine rather than hip hop, or even contemporary, I do love the choice of Radiohead.
